Ramah Women Celebrating Israel at 70 – Tentative Itinerary

March 5-13, 2018

 

Day 1: Monday March 5

After an early morning pick-up at Ben Gurion, we’ll be heading south to the beautiful Pura Nature Reserve. Our day will include a visit to Ben Gurion University where we will have the opportunity to meet with a leading faculty member, a visit to the Wadi Attar Bedouin model sustainable farm and a walk around the edge of the magnificent Ramon Crater. During the day there will be ample time for introductions. Dinner at our hotel.

Day 2: Tuesday March 6

We’ll start our morning with a unique desert yoga experience and a visit to the Ilan Ramon Museum.  Highlights of our day include a beautiful hike at Ein Avdat National Park and an opportunity to explore Jewish text with the students at the  women’s midrasha in Yerucham. Dinner at our hotel. After dinner enjoy an interesting session with a speaker from the Women Wage Peace movement.

Day 3: Wednesday March 7 

We’ll start our day at the incredible Shvil Ha’Salat museum and participate in a fresh produce master chef program. From there we will visit Rockets to Roses where artist Yaron Bob converts pieces of rockets  into jewelry and other works of art. After a lunch stop in Sderot, we will enjoy the warm hospitality of the Ethiopian community in Gedera. Late in the afternoon, we will make our way to Jerusalem.

Day 4: Thursday March 8

Optional early morning Jerusalem run before breakfast!

We will start our day with tfillot at Azarat Yisrael, the egalitarian plaza at the Kotel. We will explore the complexities of the current situation at the Kotel and the Women of the Wall movement. The morning will be spent exploring unique sites throughout the Old City. Following lunch, we will have some free time for shopping, and then visit the Michael Levin Lone Soldier Center and learn about the center’s important work with lone soldiers from around the world. We will end the day with an evening bakery walking tour in Meah Shearim.

Day 5: Friday March 9  

Optional early morning Jerusalem run before breakfast!

Our day will begin exploring  the picturesque old neighborhood of Ein Karem. From there, we will continue on to Har Herzl where we will learn the inspiring stories of Israel’s female leaders. By lunch time, we will arrive at the bustling Machane Yehuda market. Free afternoon in the city and time to prepare for Shabbat. Kabbalat Shabbat services at Kehillat Zion where we will have the unique opportunity to meet Rabba Tamar Elad (a Ramah alumna!). Dinner at our hotel.

Day 6: Saturday March 10

Enjoy a beautiful shabbat in Jerusalem. We will visit a variety of synagogues and have ample opportunity to walk the city during the afternoon.  Saturday night is a free evening.

Day 7: Sunday March 11

Optional early morning Jerusalem run before breakfast!

Following an early morning Knesset tour and an opportunity to meet with a female member of Knesset, we will be volunteering at Shekel, a unique organization that focuses on the integration of people with special needs into the broader community. After lunch at Shekel, we will be heading to Tel Aviv. Our afternoon/evening will include a graffiti art tour and dinner at Na Lagaat, the BlackOut restaurant at the Jaffa port.

Day 8: Monday March 12

We will start our day at the coastal Hof Ha’Bonim nature reserve and then proceed to Zichron Yaakov. Following a tour of the Nili Museum, we will eat lunch  at the Carmel Winery. Our day will conclude with a walking tour of the Ein Hod artist colony before we return for a free evening in Tel Aviv.

Day 9: Tuesday March 13

Today we will visit the Bialik Rogozin School in southern Tel Aviv and learn about their unique program designed for children of refugees. We’ll continue with a visit to the BINA secular yeshiva and stroll through the Nachalat Binyamin artist market.  Our day of touring will finish with a walking tour of the beautiful old city of Jaffa.  Following a farewell dinner at Maganda, we will drive to the airport
